Leeds WI meet on the second Thursday of each month (except August) in the village hall and we are always pleased to welcome ladies who may want to visit to hear a particular speaker or just what to see what we are about. The meetings commence at 7.30pm and after being updated on what is going on in the WI world not only at Leeds but in West Kent and in the National Federation we enjoy refreshments provided by members followed by a speaker. A different speaker is arranged each month and we try and vary the topics so that all tastes are catered for. The speaker at our January meeting was Jane Newsome who told us about the 22nd World Scouting Jamboree which was held last August in Sweden. Jane, who is also our President, spent two weeks there as a helper and she brought along various badges and other items she had collected including beads from Taihiti. Over 150 different countries were represented and every day bought new challenges and experiences. The talk was illustrated with photographs that Jane had taken throughout the Jamboree. Bees is the subject of Mr Simon Amans who is a member of the Kent Beekeepers Association and the speaker at our February meeting which takes place on Thursday 9th. There has been a lot of discussion regarding the decline of the bee population worldwide and what are the causes and it is hoped Mr Amans can give us an expert's point of view. On Thursday 8th March we welcome Tim Thomas who will talk about Old Headcorn. We are holding our annual Quiz Evening in the village hall on Saturday 10th March and tickets are now on sale at £8.00 each which includes supper and wine. The evening will commence at 7.30pm and there is a maximum of six persons per table. Final numbers are being taken for the visit to Winchelsea and Appledore on Thursday 28th June and we are looking forward to a WI tea at Brenzett before we return home. If you would like further details regarding Leeds WI please contact either Jane Newsome (01622 862558) or Lesley Martin (01622 861690).
